Six Petal Flower Kimekomi Revisited

Last summer I started experimenting with Kimekomi and have since posted about 15 kimekomi designs. This week I decided to revisit my Six Petal Flower design.

Here is my original design:

You can find the instructions and a video for the original design here, or by visiting the archives page.

I made a few changes to the design.
I got rid of that circle that surrounds the central flower. You can easily do this by using white out to hide the lines drawn, or rather than drawing the entire circle you can just mark the points where the circle would have intersected the lines of your simple 6 division. I also used 2 colors of fabric on the sides rather than one continuous piece of fabric. It was actually much easier to keep the fabric smooth using 6 pieces of fabric rather than one, and added an extra element to the design.

Oh…and I’m thinking of another variation in my head right now. I’ll post it on Facebook and Twitter when I’m finished. Be sure to follow me so you don’t miss anything.

I LOVE all of your ornaments. Whats more, I love your blog. It is so interesting. Thank you so much for doing this. You have inspired me to give one of these Kimekomi ornaments a try. I absolutley love your Great Balls of Fire ornaments and especially the one without the gold trim. I am however going to leave that one for a later time. I think I will just try a very simple one for starters. Again, thank you and thank you for posting on YouTube because that is how I found you.

You’re welcome Nena. I love sharing with all of you. Yes, I agree. Start simple and then work your way up. I suggest a simple 6 division first and then work your way up to the more intricate designs once you are comfortable with the process. I’m always here to help if you have any questions. Good luck!
